A post about a senior Nigerian lawyer who relocated to UK to work as a cleaner has been trending on the internet.
It is said that the lawyer who had his chamber in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, Nigeria, relinquished Nigeria for the United Kingdom using study route, where he now works as a cleaner in a company named Primark.
The post which soon took a toll on the internet was made by one @BolanleCole on Twitter (X).
The post reads:
“A very senior lawyer closed down his chamber here in Akure and relocated to UK through the influenced of his wife. He got to UK through study route and he is currently working with Primark as a cleaner.”
A lot of Netizens have reacted to the post.
The poster @BolanleCole continued in an effort to highlight the poor state of the nation of Nigeria that has prompted lots of professionals to seek a better life elsewhere.
“A lot of people doesn’t understand the concept of my tweet🙄 I need to let you people know how bad the country is at the moment for people to be leaving the country everyday. Just go to the airport and see mass exodus of people leaving and not minding what they will meet where they are moving to.”
“Professors, Doctors, Bankers, Politicians, Pastors and Nurses are closing down their businesses in Nigeria and relocating,” Bolanle wrote.
People have commended the lawyer for the move, claiming that he knows what he is doing. That the cleaning job is just temporary.
One @lsfyeparipa recollected his own story, how he took the same step that the said lawyer just took, and has never regretted that decision.
“In a year or two, he will open a bigger office in same Akure if not in Lagos or Abuja. “I did all sorts of dirty jobs as a PG student despite leaving a well paid office job in Nigeria.
“Today, I do not regret the decision I took then as I have recovered everything in multiple,” @lsfyeparipa wrote.
It is true that many Nigerians are relocating abroad to go better their lives. Even professionals do not bother about taking menial jobs they would never consider in Nigeria abroad.
The arguments are often that, the standard of living abroad is better, no matter what kind of job you are doing, you will still have enough to send back home for projects.
Some others leave because of insecurity. They believe their lives are safer abroad than in Nigeria where insurrection and banditry thrives.
