A report from Sahara Reporters has it that some gunmen attacked local vigilante in Amesi/Uga Road in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra state.
The incident is said to have occurred on Sunday around 2:30 p.m.
One of the vigilante men was injured, while their operational vehicle, a Toyota Frontier Van was put aflare.
According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga in a statement released on Monday, the gunmen attacked members of the Anambra State Vigilantes of Umuchu extraction along Amesi/Uga Road in Aguata Local Government Area of the state.
However, a police-led security forces responded to the attack with swiftness, rushing the injured vigilante to the hospital for treating, and activating an “intelligent-information-led patrols aimed to deny the criminals the space they enjoy to cause havoc and possibly arrest,” the SP said.
Mr. Ikenga also disclosed that it was during the gun duel between the security operatives and the gunmen that bullets hit the fuel tank of the Toyota Frontier Van belonging to the AVG, and the van was razed down.”
Igbo Tv recalls reporting similar incident of insecurity in Anambra State, where some vigilante were killed and injured by unidentified gunmen in the early hours of one Monday morning.
