Former Anambra State governor and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has announced that he will contest the 2027 presidential election.

Obi made this known on Sunday night during a live conversation on X Spaces, where he responded to questions about his political plans and future leadership goals.

During the discussion, the former governor dismissed speculations that he might run as a vice-presidential candidate in 2027. He stated clearly that he has no intention of being anyone’s running mate, stressing that his political experience and vision are focused on leading the country as president.

According to Obi, his years in business and public service have prepared him for the highest office in the land, and he is not willing to step down from that ambition.

His declaration has sparked fresh conversations across Nigeria’s political space, especially among Labour Party supporters and young Nigerians who strongly backed his 2023 presidential campaign.

Speaking further, Obi said he has spent years studying governance both within and outside Nigeria, not to become vice president, but to lead the nation.

“I didn’t travel round the world learning governance just to be vice president,” he said.
“I understand what Nigeria needs to move forward. I built my business from the ground up and I believe I have more experience than any candidate, including the current president.

“Peter Obi will be on the ballot in 2027. I ask for your support and your prayers.”

As the 2027 general election draws closer, political activities are expected to intensify, with major figures already positioning themselves ahead of the polls.
