Senator Shehu Sani

A former member of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Shehu Sani has lambasted the current National Assembly for its swift approach towards approving loans requested by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

In a twitter (X) post, the 8th Senate member who represented Kaduna central revealed the long procedures that has to be followed before a loan can be approved, which normally takes days.

However, it took the current House of Assembly just 48 hours to approve a loan request by the Presidency.

This is baffling to Senator Shehu Sani who sarcastically salutes the 10th National Assembly for being faster than the 8th National Assembly.

The post reads:

“The legislative procedure for approving loans;
The president letter of request for loan is read in the chamber by the Senate President and the Speaker. The letter of request is transmitted to the Committee on local and foreign debt. The committee receives the letter, set a date and summons the finance minister, DG budget, DG Debt management office and all heads of agencies factored in the loan. The committee reports back to the Chamber and the report is debated. The Senate and the House concur. The Lawmakers decides whether to approve or not to approve.
I don’t know how all this happened in 48 hours.I salute the 10th NASS for being faster than the 8th NASS.”

One @flourish007 reacted saying; “If everyone likely gets their fair share, it’s possible within 12 hours.”

@shehu_mahdi wrote; “When someone uses his leg to think and whose priority is to have his pocket always filled with money, his speed towards stupidity and self-destruction shall be a jet speed. That is the case of the National Assembly’ speed in approving the heartless, toxic, and one man show loan.”

According to @OgaMayorr; “The 8th assembly had a senate president and a speaker but 10th assembly have both chambers led by presidential reps who act as mere appointees of Mr President…. Akpabio is working hard to ensure he underperforms more than his predecessor..”
