BREAKING: Pregnant Woman in Need of Emergency Oxygen Dies in Katsina Hospital After Nurse Rejects Payment by Transfer

A tragic scene played out at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Hospital in Katsina when a pregnant woman, Aisha Najamu, lost her life after staff reportedly refused to accept a bank transfer for emergency oxygen.

Witnesses said Aisha came in already struggling to breathe and needed oxygen immediately, but the cashier insisted only cash was allowed. The family had none on them. Even when a bystander offered to pay everything through transfer, the staff still refused. The man even tried giving the cashier $100 just so they could go ahead with the transfer, but he claimed the hospital’s rules barred him from doing so.

While everyone was rushing around looking for cash, Aisha kept crying for help. She eventually passed away without getting the oxygen she needed.

The hospital management later said they received only one official complaint from IHRAAC. A representative, Aminu Ibrahim Kofar Bai, said they would visit the family and investigate anyone found guilty.

But the hospital also defended its staff, explaining that the Katsina State government’s TSA policy stops them from accepting transfers and that the hospital has no POS. The pharmacy head, Perm Usman Salisu Wada, said the staff involved was simply obeying the rules, adding that in the past when he helped some patients without upfront payment, many later refused to pay.

Aisha’s death has sparked outrage, with many blaming rigid policies for costing a life that could have been saved.
