Presidency Tells Nigerians To Report Anyone Violating Tinubu’s VIP Police Withdrawal Order

The Presidency has appealed to Nigerians to help monitor and report any breach of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s order directing the withdrawal of police escorts from VIPs across the country.

President Tinubu had earlier instructed that police officers attached to private individuals and non-essential personalities be returned to regular policing duties. Following this, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, announced on Thursday that over 11,500 police personnel assigned as escorts had already been withdrawn.

Speaking during a TVC interview on Sunday, Daniel Bwala, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, said the government is serious about enforcing the directive and needs public support to ensure full compliance.

He urged citizens to document any case where police escorts are still being used contrary to the order.

“If you see any celebrity, businessman, or private individual still moving around with police officers against the president’s directive, try to capture evidence (photo or video) as much as you can,” Bwala said.

However, he explained that the order does not affect all government officials, as some key public office holders will continue to receive necessary security arrangements.

“The president’s order is not for everybody in government. Some critical officials will still have one form of security or another,” he noted.

Bwala added that individuals who require protection may still get it from other agencies like the State Security Service (SSS) or the Civil Defence Corps, but not the police.

“It could be SSS or Civil Defence providing protection, but the police have no business being with you,” he stated.
