A traditional ruler, Oba Bayagan of Ifelodun Local Government Area in Kwara State, has been abducted by terrorists, sparking renewed fear across the region. The attack occurred on Saturday, though full details are still emerging.
Residents said the assault was sudden and threw the community into panic as gunmen stormed the area and whisked the monarch away. The incident adds to the growing list of violent attacks that have shaken rural communities in recent months.

Kwara State has been battling a troubling escalation of insecurity, with armed groups targeting villages, worship centres, and commuters. Only two weeks ago, terrorists invaded a church in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area, abducting worshippers during service before security forces later rescued them.
Days after that, another gang attacked Isapa community in the same axis, kidnapping at least 11 people, including women and youths. The latest incident involving Oba Bayagan has further heightened anxiety across Ifelodun and surrounding local government areas.
SaharaReporters also recently reported the abduction of two residents of Manba Village in Patigi LGA. Gunmen were said to have invaded the community around 11pm through the Rogun route, firing shots as villagers fled into the night.
“They operated freely and took two people away,” a community source said, adding that neighbouring settlements remain on edge.
Security agencies have been alerted, but residents continue to fear more attacks as the wave of kidnappings shows no sign of slowing.
