Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested an Air Force officer, ACM Anas Muhammed Fakai, for allegedly transporting firearms to Abuja. He was intercepted around 10:22 p.m. on Tuesday at Kabba Junction in Lokoja during a joint operation with operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Fakai, who serves with the 107 Air Maritime Group in Benin, was found carrying two pump-action rifles and a Browning pistol. During interrogation, he reportedly said the weapons were meant for Constable Mohammed Auwal Haliru, attached to the Police Headquarters in Abuja, who also serves as an orderly to a Commissioner of Police.

He further claimed the guns were originally handed to him by an Inspector Paul, said to be attached to the Edo State Government House. Military investigators also discovered that Fakai attended the Nigeria Police Secondary School in Gusau from 2015 to 2019. He remains in custody alongside the recovered weapons as further investigations continue.
In a related development, troops of the 12 Brigade recently intercepted a major consignment of cannabis being transported from Ekiti to Obajana in Kogi State; an area notorious for criminal activity.
According to Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, the drugs were discovered during a stop-and-search operation on November 24, when soldiers flagged down a Toyota Camry with registration number DKA 158AU at the Agbede Response Area.
The army says the ongoing operations are part of broader efforts to restrict criminal movement and curb rising violence across Kogi State.
