The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has debunked a viral video claiming that the Armed Forces planned to forcefully recruit Nigerians aged 18 and above.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Samaila Uba, described the video as “fake, malicious, and deliberately misleading.” He explained that the footage featured a manipulated image of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, paired with a fabricated statement aimed at damaging his reputation and creating fear among the public.

DHQ emphasized that neither the CDS nor any Service Chief has made comments suggesting compulsory military recruitment. The military, it said, continues to attract thousands of voluntary applicants during its normal recruitment exercises and remains a professional institution guided strictly by due process.
In the video, the CDS said, “If any Nigerian youth refuse to join the Army, we will make it mandatory for every youth between the ages of 18 and above…”

The DHQ called on the public to disregard the viral clip completely, stressing that it has no connection to the Nigerian military.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the alleged statement was never made by the Chief of Defence Staff or any member of the Armed Forces. In this age of artificial intelligence and disinformation, Nigerians must verify sources before sharing,” the statement added.
