Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, has declared Monday, November 24, 2025, as a statewide day of fasting and prayer in response to renewed terrorist attacks across the state.
In a statewide broadcast, Zulum said Borno’s security challenges, particularly the resurgence of Boko Haram and ISWAP attacks, demand both strategic action and spiritual intervention. He noted that although the state enjoyed relative calm in the last two years, recent incidents have revived public anxiety.
“For 15 years, Borno has been in the global spotlight because of insurgency. Millions have been displaced, our communities disrupted, and livelihoods destroyed,” he said. “We overcame the darkest days by standing together. Now, we must unite again.”

Zulum urged residents of all faiths to participate in the fast and pray for peace, divine protection, and the restoration of stability. He emphasized that the state’s progress (especially gains made in farming and resettlement) must not be reversed by renewed violence.
He praised civilians, security forces, vigilantes, and community volunteers for their resilience, saying their sacrifices have kept the state standing. “Our security strategies must be backed by prayer,” he added.
The governor assured citizens that his administration will continue supporting security agencies, strengthening community vigilance, and exploring dialogue where necessary without compromising safety.
Zulum concluded by calling on residents to remain hopeful: “Borno’s future is brighter than ever. With unity, prayers, and collective effort, peace will prevail.”
