BREAKING: Wike’s PDP Faction Expels Governors Makinde, Bala Mohammed, Dauda Lawal; Dissolves State Excos, Days After a Different PDP Faction Expelled Him and Others from the Party

The crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party deepened on Monday as the faction loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike announced the expulsion of three serving governors—Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), and Dauda Lawal (Zamfara).

They were removed alongside former BoT Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara, Senator Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, Deputy National Chairman (South) Taofeek Arapaja, and several other senior members over alleged anti-party activities.

The decisions were reached at the faction’s 103rd NEC meeting in Abuja, where the group also dissolved the PDP State Executive Councils in Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobe, Lagos, Edo, and Ekiti States.

Acting National Chairman Alhaji Mohammed Abdulrahman, who presented the memo, accused the affected members of undermining the party by disregarding court orders. National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, who read the communiqué, said the NEC convened to “restore discipline and uphold the rule of law,” insisting Nigerians expect clarity and stability from the party.

The communiqué faulted some members for organising and attending “an unauthorised convention,” describing it as a move that fuelled confusion and mass defections across the country. The NEC approved disciplinary action against 18 officials and ordered expelled leader Ali Odefa to refund all salaries and allowances received since December 2024.

The faction also approved immediate caretaker committees for states with dissolved executives and affirmed Abdulrahman as Acting National Chairman. It further directed its legal team to recover seats of defected elected officials in line with the 1999 Constitution.

A reconciliation drive and nationwide membership audit were also endorsed ahead of the 2027 elections.
