On Sunday evening was replete with rumors from several sources of the attempted assassination of Naval officer Lt A.M. Yarima, who last week had a face-off with FCT minister Nyesom Wike over landed property in Abuja.
According to earlier accounts from military sources, unidentified men dressed in black and driving two unmarked Hilux vans allegedly trailed Lt Yarima from the NIPCO filling station near the Kubwa Expressway to Gado Nasco Road. The vehicles reportedly moved in a coordinated manner, prompting the officer to carry out evasive maneuvers before successfully losing them around 6:30 p.m.
The FCT Police Command has dismissed such reports that Lieutenant A.M. Yarima survived an assassination attempt in Abuja on Sunday.

The police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, refuted the claims, stating that no such incident was reported or recorded anywhere within the FCT. She urged the public to disregard the “false information,” warning against spreading unverified claims capable of causing unnecessary panic.
Despite the police denial, military insiders maintain that the matter is under investigation, describing it as sensitive and suggesting that certain details are being withheld.
The incident comes shortly after Yarima’s confrontation with Minister Wike at a disputed land site in Gaduwa—a clash that sparked nationwide reactions and prompted the Presidency to suspend the demolition exercise. Military veterans, angered by the minister’s remarks during the altercation, vowed to resist any attempt to punish the officer, insisting that he acted within his professional mandate.
