“There is Genocide in Plateau; 64 Communities Forcefully Taken Over” – Late Former President Buhari's Minister, Solomon Dalung Cries Out

Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development Solomon Dalung has raised a grave alarm over the escalating violence in Plateau State, describing the ongoing crisis as “genocide” targeted at indigenous communities.

Speaking during an interview on News Central, Dalung traced the conflict’s evolution from political disagreements to ethnic and religious tensions, which he said have now transformed into a dangerous wave of organised criminality. According to him, what is happening today is no longer random attacks but a deliberate push to eliminate and displace native populations.

“What began as political and ethnic disputes has grown into organised criminal action. At this stage, we are witnessing a genocidal campaign—systematic elimination of indigenous communities and direct land grabbing,” he said.

Dalung revealed that more than 64 communities have reportedly been overtaken, citing figures earlier mentioned by Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang. He described the situation as alarming and warned that the prolonged silence of authorities is giving the perpetrators more boldness.

The former minister lamented that despite years of recurring violence in Plateau, the scale and coordination of the recent attacks suggest a calculated attempt to permanently alter the region’s demographic landscape.

His remarks come as local communities continue to report killings, kidnappings, arson, and mass displacement, with many residents accusing security agencies of failing to act decisively.
