Former Anambra State governor, Willie Obiano, has dismissed widespread claims that he had passed away, describing the rumour as completely false and mischievous.
Speculation spread on Friday, November 14, alleging that the former governor died in a UK hospital after battling a heart-related illness. The story circulated quickly on social media, prompting concern among supporters and residents of Anambra.
But in a statement released shortly after, Obiano reassured the public that he is very much alive and in good health.

“I woke up to hear the rumour making the rounds about my wellbeing. Let me assure you personally: I am alive, hale, hearty, and in excellent health. By the special grace of God, I am doing very well.”
Obiano expressed disappointment that some individuals still take pleasure in spreading false information but added that he chooses to remain above such acts. He thanked everyone who reached out with calls, messages, and prayers, saying their concern and goodwill meant more than words could convey.
He urged the public to ignore the rumour entirely, noting that he remains focused and grateful.
Willie Obiano served as governor of Anambra State from 2014 to 2022. Born on August 8, 1955, he hails from Aguleri in Anambra East Local Government Area.
