Tension gripped Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State on Wednesday after suspected armed robbers ambushed a joint security patrol team along the Idadu–Agbashi Road, killing a police inspector and two vigilante members.
The victims, identified as Inspector Christopher Enoh and vigilante operatives Mathew John and Augustine Yusuf, were reportedly on a routine patrol when the attackers struck without warning.
Eyewitnesses said the gunmen opened heavy fire on the patrol vehicle, killing all three instantly before fleeing with an AK-47 rifle and 30 rounds of ammunition belonging to the late officer.

“It was sudden and brutal; they had no time to respond,” a community source told reporters, adding that the attackers escaped through a nearby forest.
The bodies of the slain officers were later moved to the Agbashi General Hospital mortuary, while security agencies have launched a manhunt for the killers.
Security expert Zagazola Makama described the attack as “another painful reminder of the daily risks faced by those protecting our communities.”
Local residents have urged the Nasarawa State Government and the Nigeria Police Force to step up security patrols along rural routes that have increasingly become targets for violent attacks.
This latest ambush adds to the growing list of assaults on security operatives in Nasarawa and across the North-Central region, highlighting the persistent threat of armed violence in rural Nigeria.
