The Enugu State Police Command has confirmed the arrest and arraignment of a woman, Mrs Chisom Okonkwo, for allegedly fabricating claims that her husband, Mr Ozioma Okonkwo, defiled their two young daughters.
In a statement on Wednesday, November 13, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, revealed that Chisom, 29, had on November 25, 2025, reported to the Emene Police Division, alleging that her husband sexually abused their five- and three-year-old daughters and threatened to kill her if she spoke up.

However, following a detailed investigation, police found the accusations to be entirely false. Ndukwe explained that evidence showed the alleged incidents took place during periods in 2024 and 2025 when Chisom had travelled alone with the children to their hometown in Imo State.
Their seven-year-old son reportedly told investigators (in two voluntary written statements) that his mother coached him and his sisters to falsely accuse their father. Video evidence was also presented to support his account.

According to police, Chisom later attempted to withdraw the case when it became clear the investigation was turning against her.
She was subsequently arraigned before the Enugu State Magistrate Court on charges of defamation and giving false information to the police. The court granted her bail, and the case has been adjourned for further hearing.
