JUST IN: Anambra is Safe for Christmas, Come Home — Commissioner of Police Assures Indigenes

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, has called on indigenes in the diaspora to return home for the Christmas celebrations, assuring them of a peaceful and secure environment.

Speaking on Sunday, November 9, shortly after what has been widely regarded as one of the most peaceful governorship elections in the state’s history, CP Orutugu declared Anambra “free and peaceful,” attributing the achievement to deliberate and proactive policing strategies.

“Anambra is a safe place. Prepare and come home for Christmas,” he said.

The CP, who assumed office nine months ago, highlighted the success of his community-driven and intelligence-led approach to policing. He noted that early collaboration with traditional rulers, youth leaders, and religious heads has strengthened intelligence gathering and public confidence in law enforcement.

Explaining his philosophy of “policing without guns,” Orutugu said, “I police not your actions but your emotions—by counselling and appealing to your conscience.”

He added that the state’s flashpoint deployment strategy has ensured strong security coverage across all local government areas and border communities.

The police boss reaffirmed his zero-tolerance stance on extortion and misconduct, stressing that professionalism and respect for human rights remain central to his command’s operations.

“As we approach the festive season, residents and visitors can expect visible security presence, quick response readiness, and effective coordination across the state,” he assured. “Through deliberate policing and community engagement, we have sustained peace. Anambra is ready—come home for Christmas.”
