The Super Eagles of Nigeria lost today to Rwanda national football team at the God’swill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, in an AFCON Qualifiers match.
The defeat which has no effect on the Super Eagles since they had already secured their ticket for the 2025 AFCON Tournament was not welcomed by citizens.
The Rwanda side beat Nigeria two goals to one in a come back; where Samuel Chukwueze’s 59th minute goal was equalized in 72nd minutes of the game, with a lead for the visiting team in the 75th minute.
Though Nigeria won in possession, there were absence of key players in the pitch. Ademola Lookman who has been at his best recently for both country and club was not available. Nigeria’s number two Ola Aina was also not available. Osimhen was introduced late to the game, however, Victor Boniface was at the fore front but could not replicate his goal scoring form in his club for Nigeria.
Despite Rwanda’s victory, they will still not qualify for the 2025 AFCON.
Nigerians have reacted on this defeat. Some accusing Victor Boniface for only knowing how to talk, but cannot perform.
Popular influencer and activist VeryDarkMan expressed his frustrations by calling the team thrash and only winning games by luck, on his twitter handle. He says the Super Eagles do not have the potential of winning trophies or even winning one in the next 50 years. According to him, the players are overhyped, because, they perform well for their clubs. They do not deserve to be paid, and should be removed from the team to give new players the chance. He says that one cannot confidently beat his chest and say Super Eagles would win in any match. If they do, it is by luck.
