BREAKING: Chad Closes Down Border With Nigeria Over Security Fears, Cites U.S. Military Reports as Reasons

The Chadian government has ordered the immediate closure of its border with Nigeria over rising security concerns linked to reports of possible U.S. military activities in West Africa.

President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno issued the directive, citing intelligence reports that suspected terror elements from northern Nigeria were attempting to cross into Chad to escape ongoing military operations.

Military sources in N’Djamena confirmed that troops have been placed on high alert, with armoured vehicles and additional personnel deployed along major border routes connecting both countries.

In a statement, President Déby warned that Chad would not tolerate any armed group or foreign military presence attempting to enter its territory, stressing that the move was purely defensive and aimed at preserving national security.

“No armed group or foreign force will be allowed to step on Chadian soil under any disguise,” he said.

The decision comes amid growing unease across the Sahel region, following unverified reports of renewed U.S. military interest in West African territories.

Security experts believe the border closure is a proactive step by Chad to prevent infiltration by armed groups and maintain control amid regional uncertainty.

Analysts also say the action underscores the fragile security dynamics in the Lake Chad Basin, where Nigeria, Chad, Niger, and Cameroon have continued to battle extremist insurgencies despite years of joint military efforts.
