In what appears to be a swift and assertive response to mounting international pressure and recent security concerns, the Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), CP Miller G. Dantawaye, psc, has ordered an extensive and sustained crackdown on criminal elements across Abuja. The move comes barely 48 hours after U.S. President Donald Trump announced plans for possible military intervention over alleged Christian persecution in Nigeria—a statement that has rattled security circles and jolted Nigerian authorities into action.
According to a press release signed by SP Josephine Adeh, the Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command, the operation will involve tactical teams drawn from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Police Mobile Force (PMF), and the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU).
These units are to work hand-in-hand with divisional formations across the territory in a “massive cleanup operation” that will run from November 2025 through January 2026.

The Police Commissioner directed that the operation be “intense, consistent, and uncompromising,” with teams tasked to dominate black spots, dismantle criminal hideouts, and restore public confidence in the Force’s ability to safeguard the FCT. Dantawaye warned officers against any form of complacency, indiscipline, or abuse of power, stressing that “no lapse or unprofessional conduct will be tolerated.”
While assuring residents of the command’s readiness to protect lives and property, the CP appealed for public cooperation, noting that security is a collective effort. “Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and support ongoing police efforts,” the statement read.
Observers believe the timing of this operation is not coincidental. Trump’s recent remarks (labeling Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” and hinting at military options) have placed Nigeria’s internal security record under fresh global scrutiny.
The operation is expected to continue into early next year, with the Police Command vowing to leave no stone unturned in reclaiming Abuja from criminal elements and restoring lasting peace across the Territory.
