BREAKING: U.S. Senator Ted Cruz Pushes Bill to Fight Muslims Sharia Law and Blasphemy in Nigeria After Trump's Designation of Nigeria as a 'Country of Particular Concern'

United States Senator Ted Cruz has announced plans to advance new legislation aimed at addressing the enforcement of Sharia and blasphemy laws in Nigeria, reports SaharaReporters. His move follows President Donald Trump’s recent redesignation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over alleged persecution of Christians.

In a statement published on his official website, Senator Cruz commended Trump for the decision, saying it aligns with his long-standing advocacy for persecuted Christians.

“I am deeply gratified by President Trump’s determination,” Cruz said. “For years, I’ve fought to counter the slaughter and persecution of Christians in Nigeria, and my legislation will help reinforce this designation and ensure accountability.”

According to Cruz, the proposed bill will impose additional measures targeting individuals and officials who enforce blasphemy and Sharia laws in Nigeria. He emphasized that the initiative is part of broader efforts to hold Nigerian authorities responsible for actions that create “an environment conducive to religious violence.”

Trump, in his Truth Social post, had claimed that Christianity faces an “existential threat” in Nigeria, alleging mass killings by “radical Islamists.” He said he had instructed U.S. lawmakers to investigate the situation and report back with recommendations.

Sharia law is practiced in several northern Nigerian states, where there have been reported cases of mob attacks and killings linked to alleged blasphemy. Cruz said his bill aims to pressure the Nigerian government to end such practices and strengthen protections for religious freedom.
