A tragic attack has left the Farin Dutse community in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State in mourning, as suspected bandits killed a clergyman and abducted over 20 worshippers in the early hours of Tuesday, October 28, 2025.
The victim, identified as Reverend Yahaya Kambasiya of the United Church of Christ in Nigeria (UCCN), also known as HEKAN, was reportedly gunned down while trying to return to the community after initially fleeing the attack.
Confirming the incident, the President of the Church, Rev. Dr. Amos Kiri, described the assault as heartbreaking. He said the bandits stormed the quiet, agrarian community, shooting sporadically and instilling fear among residents before taking several people hostage, including members of the church.

“Reverend Kambasiya and others took refuge in a nearby farm while the gunfire continued. Sadly, when he thought the attackers had left and tried to return home, he was shot from behind and died instantly,” Rev. Kiri said.
The church has since deposited the pastor’s remains in a morgue, while discussions with his family are ongoing to determine funeral arrangements.
The Kaduna State authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the attack, which adds to the growing wave of insecurity troubling rural communities across the state.
