Nigeria’s Human Rights Lawyer, Femi Falana in an old video that has gone viral lately stated that Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church is not building religious institutions but business centers.

Femi Falana who is the father of popular afro rapper and song writer Falz, recalled Fela’s admonitions about religiosity as opposed to spirituality.

He quoted Adeboye as saying he wants to build more churches across the country, so that worshipers could easily access a church within a walking distance.

This, the Human Rights Lawyer says, is what Fela sang about.

He says, Adeboye is building business centers and not religious institutions. He spoke about the dangers of religiosity.

A lot of Nigerians have reacted to this. Some said it’s an old video and shouldn’t be taken serious. While many still find the video worthy of watching.

It is true that many Nigerians have begun to question what they once believed in. The number of churches keep multiplying in all regions of the country, yet nothing is working. Critics have said, the “leave it to God” mentality of Nigerians are the reasons politicians are not held accountable. People would rather choose to go pray in church and ask God for a good leader instead of making the needed steps to choosing a good leader.

The more religion thrives, the more reluctant we become in doing what ought to be done. We retract to praying and fasting, which of course are the instructions given by these religious leaders.

But they (the religious leaders) are not bothered, as far as they continue living on the members’ incomes.
