President Bola Tinubu has approved a major shake-up in Nigeria’s military command, appointing new heads for the Armed Forces in what the Presidency described as a move to strengthen the country’s security architecture.
In the new appointments, General Olufemi Oluyede takes over from General Christopher Musa as the Chief of Defence Staff. Major-General W. Shaibu has been named the Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke becomes the Chief of Air Staff, while Rear Admiral I. Abbas assumes the position of Chief of Naval Staff.
The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, retains his post, as does the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, despite calls for his replacement.

Announcing the changes on Friday, Sunday Dare, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, said the new appointments take immediate effect.
President Tinubu, in his message, thanked the outgoing Service Chiefs, especially General Musa, for their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership,” urging the new military heads to demonstrate professionalism, vigilance, and unity in discharging their duties.
The shake-up, coming amid growing security challenges across the country, is seen as part of the administration’s effort to reposition the Armed Forces for greater efficiency and national stability.
