Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has visited Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, the lawyer representing IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, along with Kanu’s brother, Emmanuel Kanu, and other protesters detained for demanding Kanu’s release.
Sowore revealed the visit in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, describing it as a “productive meeting.” He said the group, which includes Ejimakor, Emmanuel Kanu, Barrister Wisdom Okere, and 10 others, remains in high spirits despite being brutalized by police.
“We had a productive meeting today with Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, his brother Emmanuel Kanu, Barr. Wisdom Okere, and 10 others who were arrested and brutalized by the Nigeria Police Force for participating in a peaceful #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest,” Sowore wrote.

He alleged that after his visit, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command tear-gassed and further mistreated the detainees before transferring them to the notorious SARS Abattoir facility.
Condemning the act, Sowore demanded the removal of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, describing his leadership as “irresponsible.”
Ejimakor and others were arrested on October 20 during a peaceful protest in Abuja. They were later charged with conspiracy, public disturbance, and disobedience to lawful order before being remanded in Kuje Prison.
Their arrest has sparked public outrage, with activists accusing the government of using force to silence peaceful dissent and hinder Nnamdi Kanu’s legal defence.
Some skeptical minds have also asked why Sowore who organized the protest was not arrested, even after visiting the police station, arguing that this is way more than the eyes can see, that there is a hidden agenda for which Sowore is the catalyst. Many of them praised Peter Obi for not allowing himself to be misled into the protest, conjecturing that Peter Obi, if he had joined, would have been the target.
