Court Orders Hisbah to Facilitate Marriage of Viral TikTok Duo in Kano, After They Released "Indecent" Videos Together

A Magistrate Court sitting in Kano has ordered the Kano State Hisbah Board to facilitate the marriage of popular TikTok content creators, Idris Mai Wushirya and Basira Yar Guda, within 60 days following their appearance in viral videos deemed “indecent” by the state’s Films and Video Censorship Board.

Presiding Magistrate Halima Wali, on Monday, October 20, 2025, warned that failure to conduct the marriage within the specified period would amount to contempt of court. The court further directed the Chairman of the Censorship Board to oversee the implementation of the order.

According to the board, the videos violated state laws prohibiting the production and distribution of sexually suggestive or obscene content. The clips, which showed the duo engaging in romantic gestures, were described as contrary to the moral and religious values upheld in Kano State.

Mai Wushirya was earlier remanded in a correctional facility after clips of him shirtless and performing what authorities called “immoral and demeaning acts” went viral. His co-creator, Yar Guda, was also interrogated by the board’s enforcement team before the case was transferred to court.

The ruling has sparked mixed reactions online, with many questioning the legality and morality of compelling the pair to marry under court order.
