Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has distanced himself from the Biafra secession movement, saying the progress and prosperity of the Igbo people are tied to Nigeria’s unity.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Sunday, October 19, 2025, the former Central Bank Governor emphasized that while peaceful protests are a democratic right, he does not support separatist calls led by Nnamdi Kanu and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Soludo condemned the now-weakened Monday sit-at-home order, describing it as self-destructive. “If you are agitating for something and end up killing your own people or shutting down your economy, you are defeating your purpose,” he said.

He added that Anambra residents have largely abandoned the sit-at-home directive, noting that those who still stay home do so by choice, not fear.
The Governor credited improved security efforts for restoring peace in the state and noted that IPOB leaders, including Kanu, had already disowned the directive, blaming criminals for hijacking it.
Soludo said his role is governance, not activism, but urged collective leadership among Igbo stakeholders. He revealed he had encouraged Ohanaeze Ndigbo and South-East leaders to engage Kanu in dialogue after his release to shape the region’s future together.
“I believe the Igbo need Nigeria, and Nigeria needs the Igbo,” Soludo said. “We are an itinerant people who thrive through unity and tolerance.”
