A 15-year-old prodigy from Graceland International School, Port Harcourt, Agbo Adoga, has continued to make Nigeria proud after achieving a perfect score of 1600 on the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT)—an extraordinary feat that places him among the top-performing students globally.
However, his recent qualification to represent Nigeria at the International Mathematics Olympiad in China has taken a disappointing turn due to lack of government sponsorship.
According to education advocate Alex Onya, who shared the update on X (formerly Twitter), Graceland International School confirmed that Agbo was selected to represent Nigeria at the global Olympiad.

Sadly, the Nigerian Ministry of Education reportedly stated it had no funds to sponsor any participant, meaning Agbo may not attend the competition.
When asked by another X user if private or individual sponsorship could help, Onya clarified that the Olympiad’s rules require all national representatives to be sponsored by their country’s education ministry. “Individual sponsorship is not allowed,” he explained, adding that Agbo’s parents would have gladly covered the costs if permitted.
The news has sparked outrage and disappointment among Nigerians, many of whom see Agbo’s situation as a reflection of the country’s neglect of academic excellence.
Education experts have called on the Federal Government to urgently intervene, describing Agbo’s case as “a national shame and missed opportunity to celebrate brilliance.”
For now, while Agbo’s SAT record remains a beacon of pride, his Olympiad dream hangs in the balance.
