The political scene in Enugu State is set for a major realignment as Governor Peter Mbah and the entire structure of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) prepare to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday, October 14.

The newly inaugurated Enugu State APC Caretaker Committee Chairman, Dr. Ben Nwoye, confirmed the move at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja after taking the oath of office.

According to him, Mbah will be received into the APC alongside 260 councillors, 24 state lawmakers, National Assembly members, and the entire state executive council in what he described as a “historic political alignment.”

“For the past 10 years, Enugu has remained in opposition. But that ends on Tuesday when Governor Mbah declares for the APC—and he’s not coming alone,” Nwoye said.

He described the defection as “a merger between transformation and renewed hope,” adding that Mbah’s Transformation Agenda aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Vision for development in the Southeast.

APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, who inaugurated the seven-man caretaker committee, urged members to consolidate the defection into lasting political dominance. “APC is home for all. Our goal is simple: to expand, to win, and to deliver overwhelming victory in 2027,” Yilwatda stated.

APC Deputy National Chairman (South), Emma Eneukwu, hailed the defection as a breakthrough for the region. “With Enugu in APC, the Southeast has found its voice again. We will no longer play second fiddle,” he said.
