Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has revealed that he met with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja to discuss the prolonged detention of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Sowore disclosed this in a post on his verified Facebook page on Friday, stating that the meeting centered on finding a fair and lasting resolution to Kanu’s case. According to him, Jonathan acknowledged the urgency of addressing the issue “decisively and justly” in the interest of peace, fairness, and national healing.
The activist further noted that Jonathan promised to meet with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu soon to discuss possible steps toward resolving the matter.

“With this, former President Jonathan joins a growing list of Nigerians calling for justice in Nnamdi Kanu’s case,” Sowore wrote. “That list already includes ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Femi Falana (SAN), Senator Shehu Sani, and many others across political and regional divides.”
Sowore described Kanu’s continued detention as unjust, insisting that he should be released like other political detainees whose cases have been withdrawn. He also appealed to prominent Igbo leaders (including Peter Obi, Charles Soludo, Alex Otti, and Hope Uzodinma) to lend their voices to the cause.
“Nnamdi Kanu should be set free,” Sowore declared, reaffirming his commitment to peaceful mobilization for justice and freedom.
He concluded the post with the hashtag #FreeNnamdiKanuNow.
