Former Abia State Governor and Senate Chief Whip, Orji Uzor Kalu, says he cannot comment on the detention of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu until he knows the stance of President Bola Tinubu and the courts.
Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, Kalu said it would be inappropriate to make public statements while the case is still before a competent court.
“You know this case is before a court of competent jurisdiction,” Kalu said. “It’s not a good thing for me to start making comments without knowing the court’s or the President’s position. The President is watching the judiciary closely.”

Kalu, who maintains contact with both the Presidency and southeast leaders, revealed that he had discussed Kanu’s issue with Tinubu “many times,” but refused to share details. He noted that quiet diplomacy is ongoing among key stakeholders to ensure a peaceful resolution.
“We must not make Justice Nyako or any judge look like a fool by discussing this case publicly,” he said. “Nigerians must respect the decisions of our courts.”
Kalu also stressed that only the Attorney-General of the Federation has the constitutional authority to end the case.
The senator’s comments come amid fresh calls for Kanu’s release, including a planned peaceful march to Aso Rock by activist Omoyele Sowore.
