Anambra Elections: Group Launches Election-Monitoring App Ahead of Anambra Governorship Poll Where Citizens can Track Activities in Real Time

A civic-tech organisation, Citizen Monitors, has unveiled a web-based election-monitoring platform designed to help citizens record, verify, and track election activities in real time ahead of the November 8, 2025, Anambra governorship election.

In a statement on Thursday, the group said the platform aims to make election day “clear, not chaotic,” by turning voters into active witnesses rather than passive onlookers.

The app allows users to upload photos and videos of results or incidents from polling units. Each report is automatically time-stamped, geo-tagged, and peer-reviewed before being displayed on a public dashboard featuring a live map of verified updates.

Co-founder Adeshope Haastrup said the platform would strengthen electoral transparency.

“Trust grows when people can see the evidence. With this app, Anambra can protect its polling units with facts, not noise,” he stated.

The group’s spokesperson, Olajumoke Alawode-James, added that the initiative promotes citizen participation and accountability.

“Our message is simple—see it, record it, verify it. If each unit plays its part, election day becomes clearer and safer for everyone,” she said.

Meanwhile, Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo accused some politicians of “sleeping in INEC offices” to influence the outcome of the coming poll.

Speaking at a panel discussion in Abuja on electoral technology, Soludo urged politicians to stop manipulating the system, stressing that Nigeria’s elections have improved significantly but require greater honesty from political actors.
