President Bola Tinubu has said Abia State, along with other parts of Nigeria, is already reaping the benefits of his administration’s removal of fuel subsidy.
Tinubu made this known on Friday during a one-day official visit to Abia, where he was represented by the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi.
He explained that the policy has allowed state governments to channel more resources into key development projects.

“The removal of the fuel subsidy is gaining momentum for projects, and we are beginning to see the benefits here in Abia State,” Umahi said while delivering the president’s message. “The same progress is being experienced in other states across Nigeria. I am committed to working with your governor to ensure that Abia State fully reclaims its potential.”
During the visit, several projects were commissioned, including the remodeled Dr. Michael Okpara Auditorium and newly completed road networks.
Tinubu had announced the end of Nigeria’s decades-long petrol subsidy during his inauguration on May 29, 2023, with the now-famous words, “Subsidy is gone.”
The move drew mixed reactions, with critics faulting the government for not rolling out adequate measures to cushion its immediate impact. But Tinubu maintains the decision is necessary for long-term growth and development.
