Former Minister of Information, Professor Jerry Gana, has declared that former President Goodluck Jonathan will contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking after the PDP Niger State Congress in Minna on Saturday, Gana said Nigerians, having experienced two administrations since Jonathan’s exit, now yearn for his return.
“In 2015, Jonathan said his ambition was not worth the blood of Nigerians. Since then, another president ruled for eight years and now another for two years. Nigerians have seen the difference and are calling for Jonathan’s comeback,” he said.

Gana insisted Jonathan would run as PDP’s candidate in 2027, urging Nigerians to prepare to vote him back to Aso Rock. He described the PDP as “truly democratic and people-oriented,” dismissing claims of internal crisis. According to him, disagreements within the party had been resolved at a consultative conference in Abuja.
At the congress, Alhaji Aliyu Mohammed Halidu was elected state chairman with 1,289 votes, narrowly defeating Zonal Chairman Alhaji Yahaya Abdullahi (Ability), who polled 1,269. Others elected include Alhaji Khadi Kuta as Secretary (unopposed) and Mrs. Salome Ndakosu as Woman Leader with 1,373 votes.
In his acceptance speech, Halidu urged party members to unite for the task ahead, stressing the PDP’s readiness to return to power in 2027.
