“Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation”
The Federal Government on Sunday held a special thanksgiving service at the National Ecumenical Centre, Abuja, and Jumat prayers at the National Mosque, as part of preparations for Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary. The inter-denominational service was dedicated to prayers of gratitude and guidance for the nation.
The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, attended the thanksgiving with his wife, alongside the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and other top officials.
Also present were Finance Minister Wale Edun, former Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong, and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, who led the service chiefs. Heads of key security agencies, including the Navy, Police, Immigration, and Correctional Service, were also in attendance.

President Tinubu was represented by the Hon Minister of Information and National Orientation at the Jumat Prayer held at the National Mosque
This year’s Independence celebrations, themed “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation,” feature a series of national events. They include a Juma’at prayer, another church service, and a world press conference.
On October 2, President Bola Tinubu will join former Heads of State Yakubu Gowon, Olusegun Obasanjo, and Goodluck Jonathan at a special national discourse hosted by Island Club, Lagos.
The thanksgiving in Abuja, officials said, reflects government’s commitment to fostering unity and seeking divine direction as the country celebrates 65 years of independence.
All the 36 States of the Federation held their individual thanksgiving services with their governors present, in preparation for Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.
