A woman accused of attempting to abduct a seven-year-old boy was lynched and set ablaze by an angry mob in Agbarho, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, September 24, along Ekwvere Road, has thrown the community into fresh tension over recurring cases of missing children.
Eyewitnesses told Vanguard that the woman allegedly hid the child in a sack while carrying a Bible in one hand. Suspicion grew when residents noticed the way she was dragging the bag. Upon interrogation, she reportedly became uneasy, and when the sack was forced open, the boy was found inside.

The discovery sparked outrage, attracting a large crowd. Witnesses said the mob beat the woman severely, placed a used tyre around her neck, and set her on fire.
Agbarho has been battling frequent reports of child abductions. Community members allege that more than 30 children have disappeared in the past year. Just last week, a young man was caught while allegedly attempting to abduct a child and was handed over to the police.
“This time, the crowd chose instant justice, believing that handing her over to the authorities would not yield results,” a resident said, adding that the mob wanted to send a strong warning to others involved in child trafficking.
