A drone attack on Israel’s southern resort city of Eilat on the Red Sea left 20 people injured on Wednesday, with two in critical condition.
The Israeli military said the unmanned aircraft was launched from Yemen and struck despite attempts to intercept it. Air raid sirens had sounded moments before impact, sending residents scrambling for cover. A plume of smoke was seen rising above the city, while emergency services rushed the wounded to Yoseftal Hospital.
According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), soldiers and police quickly sealed off the area, assisted with evacuations, and deployed a helicopter to move some of the injured. The military also urged residents to remain in protected shelters for at least 10 minutes whenever alerts are triggered.

Magen David Adom, Israel’s emergency medical service, confirmed that 20 people were hospitalized, with two suffering severe limb injuries.
Israeli media linked the strike to Yemen’s Houthi rebels, though the group has not claimed responsibility. If confirmed, it would mark one of their deadliest attacks on Israeli soil.
Eilat has faced repeated drone and missile strikes in recent weeks. A drone hit the city’s hotel district last week without causing injuries, while another strike on Ramon Airport earlier this month wounded one person.
The Houthis, who say they are acting in support of Palestinians in Gaza, have also targeted ships in the Red Sea. Israel has responded with air strikes on Houthi-held areas in Yemen, fueling tensions further.
