The European-American University has distanced itself from an honorary doctorate degree allegedly awarded to popular Hausa musician, Dauda Kahutu Rarara, describing the ceremony as fraudulent.
Over the weekend, Rarara was reportedly conferred with the title during an event at Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja, attended by dignitaries including Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda. The supposed conferral was carried out by individuals posing as representatives of the university.

In a disclaimer published on its official website, the institution stressed that it neither organised the event nor authorised anyone to act on its behalf. It further clarified that Rarara and other names mentioned as recipients were not listed in its official register of graduates.
The university also disowned persons cited as its Nigerian representatives, insisting they had no authority to issue degrees or collect money on its behalf. One of them, Idris Aliyu, was accused of misrepresenting his role. His fellowship status, previously granted by the university, has since been revoked.
The institution added that legal authorities in Nigeria would be contacted to clamp down on the group behind the “fake convocation” and prevent further issuance of fraudulent certificates.
