BREAKING: Notorious Bandit Leader Frees 40 More Captives in Katsina, Threatens to Abandon Peace Deal if Govt Attacks his Camp

Notorious bandit leader, Isya Kwashen Garwa, has freed 40 more abducted persons in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State following an ongoing peace dialogue with local authorities.

The release, confirmed during a handover to officials, comes just days after 30 captives were set free on Wednesday. Garwa said this latest move brings the total number of those released to 72, including two freed earlier outside the group.

Speaking in a video obtained by SaharaReporters, Garwa explained that the gesture was in fulfilment of promises made during a recent peace pact. He insisted that his fighters were not pressured or defeated, stressing that the decision was voluntary.

“I was instructed to go into the bush to ensure kidnapped victims were released, and I am still trying to gather everyone held,” he said.

However, Garwa raised alarm over an incident in Ruwan-Godiya, where he alleged security operatives attacked his community on Friday. According to him, the raid left men, women, and children dead, while motorcycles and other belongings were seized.

He warned that unless the government acted swiftly to address the alleged killings, his group would reconsider its commitment to peace.

“If you do not act, we will return to fighting, and when things worsen, you will tell the world we broke our promise,” Garwa declared.

The releases mark another step in months-long negotiations between local stakeholders and armed groups aimed at curbing kidnappings and violence in parts of northwestern Nigeria.
