Shock gripped Magama Gumau community in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State after a woman allegedly burnt her seven-year-old stepdaughter’s private part with a heated knife.
The suspect, identified as Suwaira Ibrahim, was said to have accused the child, Habiba (not her real name), of witchcraft after her own child claimed to have seen the girl “among witches.”
Reports say Suwaira first took Habiba to a spiritualist, who declared the child innocent. Dissatisfied, she allegedly returned home and pressed a hot knife on the girl’s private part, insisting it was a test of witchcraft.

The victim’s screams drew neighbors, who forced their way into the house and rescued her. Community activist Kabiru Mohammed Abdulkadir said the girl sustained severe burns and now struggles with urination and defecation.
She has since been rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, for urgent treatment.
Bauchi Police Command spokesperson CSP Ahmed Wakil confirmed the incident, saying the case was first reported in Toro before being transferred to the state headquarters. He added that efforts to cover up the matter at the community level failed, and investigations are ongoing.
Neighbors have called for justice, describing the act as barbaric and inhuman.
