Communities in Delta State are breathing a sigh of relief after security forces neutralized a gang of kidnappers who had terrorized residents for more than two years.
The criminals, who often used the railway line connecting Delta to Edo and Kogi States as an escape route, were responsible for several kidnappings and killings in Abavo, Owa, and neighboring communities. On September 17, 2025, some members of the gang were brought to justice, with a number meeting their end during the operation.

Harrison Gwamnishu of the Safe City Volunteer Foundation, in a statement, commended the joint efforts of the Delta State Police Command, Owa-Oyibu Divisional Headquarters, vigilante groups, and the Delta State Security Agency (Operation Sweep).
“This is not yet a time for celebration,” he cautioned, noting that some gang members remain at large. He urged residents to continue reporting suspicious movements, stressing that “fear is what gives them power” and that unity among the people is key to ending insecurity.
The successful operation has restored hope to communities that had long lived in fear, even as calls grow for tighter surveillance to ensure fleeing suspects are tracked down and brought to justice.
