BREAKING: Tension in Rivers as Governor Fubara’s Whereabouts Remain Unknown, While Lawmakers Remain Divided

Tension has gripped Rivers State as residents await the return of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, whose whereabouts remain unknown since President Bola Tinubu restored him to office.

Fubara was suspended six months ago when a state of emergency was declared. The president lifted the order on Wednesday and directed Sole Administrator Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.) to hand power back to the governor. In a farewell broadcast, Ibas urged citizens to support Fubara in resuming his duties.

Despite this, the governor has not been seen, fueling speculation and anxiety. Arise TV correspondent Friday Olokor noted that while Port Harcourt remains calm, uncertainty persists over when the governor will return.

While expecting the governor’s return, citizens have paraded the streets. Displays were carried out to welcome back the governor. However, after a long period of waiting without hearing from the governor, the atmosphere became tense, and the people became worried.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State House of Assembly remains deeply divided, with factions holding separate sittings. Observers warn that the unresolved political rift and the governor’s silence could heighten instability.

Many residents are calling for reconciliation and a return to effective governance, stressing that the people of Rivers have borne the weight of prolonged political crises for too long.
