Troops of the Nigerian Army have captured a notorious commander of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), Ifeanyi Eze Okorienta, popularly known as “Gentle de Yahoo.”
He was arrested during a coordinated operation by troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade in Aku-Ihube, Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State. Security sources said the suspect had long terrorized residents through kidnappings, extortion, and violent attacks.
During the raid, soldiers recovered an English-made pistol, over 140 rounds of live ammunition, police and military uniforms, six mobile phones, and a German flag reportedly linked to the group. A workshop used for dismantling stolen vehicles was also uncovered, while ten motorcycles allegedly deployed for criminal activities were destroyed.

The Army described the arrest as a breakthrough for communities in Imo State, noting that residents can now “breathe easier” after months of insecurity. Community leaders welcomed the operation, urging authorities to sustain pressure on criminal networks across the South-East.
The arrest was part of nationwide counter-terrorism efforts. In Adamawa, Katsina, Kogi, and Benue States, troops rescued several kidnap victims, neutralized armed suspects, and recovered weapons. In Plateau State, soldiers also retrieved 40 rustled cattle and returned them to their owners.
Military authorities commended the troops and vowed to intensify operations. “The arrest of Gentle de Yahoo is a symbolic victory in the fight against separatist militias. We will not relent until peace is fully restored,” a senior officer said.
