The President/Chief Executive Officer of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and the Dangote Group of Companies, Aliko Dangote, on Monday, claimed his truck drivers earn very high, even four times the country’s minimum wage.
Speaking at a press conference on the celebration of his refinery’s first anniversary of gasoline production, Dangote addressed the claims and issues surrounding petroleum production and marketing while putting on a few mocking jests on the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas (NUPENG) Workers, asking them to join Dangote if they are aggrieved and saying that his company also offers house loans to staff.
He addressed NUPENG, reminding them that it is not mandatory for anyone to join a trade union, just as everyone has the freedom to choose a religion they want to belong to, and that it is his choice not to allow his drivers to join NUPENG.

He also spoke on the issue of trucks, saying his company lacks adequate trucks for distribution and that he has ordered 4000 trucks from China, 1000 being CNG.
Dangote refuted claims of monopoly by NUPENG and the issue of fuel price, which Dangote slashed, claiming it is a “Greek gift” to Nigerians; however, Dangote challenged them, saying they should give Nigerians a “French gift” as well.
“They said we gave Nigerians a Greek gift; why don’t you give the French one? Even if it’s a Greek gift, it means that it is a gift and will still be there all the time,” he said.
Dangote also revealed that with the new trucks set to arrive, he would be creating 28,000 jobs.
