BREAKING: Wanted Bandit Leader Accepts Peace Deal in Katsina

One of Nigeria’s most notorious bandit leaders, Isiya Kwashen Garwa, who is on the Defence Headquarters’ wanted list, has reportedly agreed to a peace deal in Katsina State. He is allegedly responsible for the Katsina Mosque attack that took the lives of 30 people.

Garwa, whose name appears among the country’s 19 most-wanted terrorists and bandits, surfaced in Hayin Gada, Faskari Local Government Area, where he presented himself as a supporter of dialogue.

The development was disclosed by security analyst Zagazola Makama in a post on his X handle on Sunday. According to him, Garwa, a native of Kamfanin Daudawa village in Faskari, has for years been linked to killings, kidnappings, and raids across forest corridors in Katsina and neighboring states.

Security experts describe him as part of a wider criminal network responsible for destabilizing large parts of the North-West and North-Central regions.

Makama noted that while Garwa’s sudden shift toward peace could signal a new phase, opinions remain sharply divided. Some community members see it as an opportunity to restore calm after years of bloodshed, while others doubt his sincerity, recalling the atrocities committed under his command.

The state government and security stakeholders are yet to formally respond to his gesture, but discussions around the risks and prospects of engaging with notorious bandit leaders continue to spark debate.
