The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted several attempts by drug peddlers to smuggle illicit substances from the country to overseas.

In a statement released by the Director, Media & Advocacy of the Agency, Femi Babafemi on Sunday, March 16, 2025, the operatives of the NDLEA had intercepted several attempts by Drug Trafficking Organisations (DTO) to smuggle drugs abroad through logistics firms and the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.

A 43-year-old businesswoman, identified as Jakpor Egware May, was arrested at the airport’s Gate ‘C’ departure hall while preparing to board an Air France flight to Italy on Saturday, March 8, 2025, according to the statement.

The said culprit had concealed illicit drugs, including tramadol, cocaine, laud, molly, and cannabis in prayer beads, female clothing and board games headed for United States, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Poland, and the United Arab Emirates.

Her luggage was searched, and several illicit substances were discovered, such as; 190 parcels of tramadol (225mg), an additional package of skunk, and a potent strain of cannabis.

Egware May, admitted to her crimes, saying she had bought the drugs herself, and intended to do sell them in Italy.

Others that have been apprenhended by the NDLEA are; Salisu Usman, 33, at Ilorin; Aminu Magaji, 28, at Kaduna; Olowoko Faruk, 27, and Akeem Ridwan, 32, at Kwara State; Chinaza Nwogu, 34, at Ntigha Community; Hassan Haruna, 40, at Kano; Sani Ibrahim, 25, at Kabba-Obajana Highway; and Ade Esan, 58, at Gwagwalada.

All the above listed drug traffickers were all arrested in March, from 8th to 15th, 2025.

NDLEA in the statement, reiterated on its commitment to crackdown drug trafficking networks and bring perpetrators to justice.
