With unemployment in continuous proliferation in the country, a little advertisement of job opening would see numbers of people fighting to get a chance.
It has become our sad reality.
A document released by the Civil Service Commission in Cross River State shows that too many people applied for vacant positions in the State’s Civil Service and Health sector.
Out of 2,208 vacancies advertised; 2,000 for the Civil service and 208 for the health sector, over 33,955 applied.
Despite this, the State civil service has shortlisted only 956 applicants, who would be invited for interview at a communicated date and time.
According to figures in the released document dated 19 November and signed by the chairperson of the Commission, Maurice Effiwatt, there were 31,818 applications for the core civil service and 2,137 for the state health sector.
Out of the 31,818 applications for the core civil service, only 750 applications were shortlisted, while 206 from the 2,137 health sector applications were shortlisted.
The document also indicates numbers of applications for each roles.
8,358 applied for clerical officers, 7,700 for administrative officers, 1,916 for messenger roles; then firemen, drivers and security got 370, 401 and 551 applications respectively, in the core civil service.
While in the health sector, 1,184 applied for Nursing roles, 446 applied for Medical Lab Scientist roles and 300 applications were entered for Public health/environmental health.
