 In a significant development first reported by Zagazola Makama, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally approved the establishment of a state-of-the-art Depot Nigerian Army in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State — a strategic step designed to expand the military’s manpower and boost its operational capacity across the country.
Military sources confirm the new depot will serve as a critical complement to existing Army training facilities nationwide, ensuring a consistent, high-quality stream of well-prepared personnel for deployment in areas facing security challenges.
Built around the Nigerian Army’s strategic plan for 2024-2028, the facility will focus on specialist, mission-oriented training — with intensive modules on advanced marksmanship, tactical fieldcraft, urban warfare, counter-insurgency operations, and operational readiness in diverse terrains. Beyond combat skills, the depot will also incorporate robust measures to safeguard the welfare and wellbeing of recruits, including modern accommodation, healthcare services, and post-training support systems to ensure soldiers transition smoothly into active service.
This initiative comes hot on the heels of recent federal efforts to ramp up the military’s manpower — a push that aligns with Nigeria’s recent rise to 3rd place in Africa’s Global Firepower Index.
